As you most likely know, seniors are statistically prone to developing cognitive impairments like dementia. ElderGadget is no stranger to suggesting new ways to improve and protect the state of the aging brain; we have talked about brain games at length on multiple occasion. We have rarely broached the subject of helping the aging brain through physical exercise though. So it is our pleasure to share results from two new findings that were published in the Archives of Neurology on physical activity and the brain.
One new study from Dr. Yonas E. Geda at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota suggests that mild aerobic workouts like walking or swimming might reduce cognitive difficulties that the elderly commonly encounter. Another study conducted by Seattle-based researchers revealed that seniors who began to suffer from cognitive problems saw improvements after six months of high-intensity aerobic workouts.
These findings are quite encouraging, as they suggest that that reduced cognitive processing is anything but inevitable or irreversible. As we see it, it is in in your best interest to integrate a solid workout into your daily routine.
