It has the same dual-core processor as the iPad 2, a higher resolution rear-facing camera with a redesigned lens that’s even sharper than its predecessor, hundreds of thousands of apps, Siri for incredible control of your phone by just your voice, plus the front facing camera that works perfectly with Apple’s FaceTime. The iPhone 4s is available for Sprint, AT&T or Verizon in the U.S. and starts at $199.

6. Amazon Kindle Fire or Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet
Amazon finally offers a full-color, backlit eReader that also plays movies that you can rent and stream directly from Amazon, surfs the web, plays games and more. Barnes & Noble's Nook Tablet competes with full web browsing capabilities and Android tablet functionality. Either is a good choice for an inexpensive Android tablet/eReader. If you or the person you're buying it for already has an account with Amazon or B&N, you'll know which one to get them. That account information also makes setup incredibly simple. There's also free book lending between owners of Nooks or Kindles, but not cross-platform, so if you and they have the same, you can share books. Of the two, the Fire is cheaper and can play Amazon Instant Video, and it does it easily and well. $189-249.
