Chevrolet's entry into the hybrid market offers some really interesting features. It's a modern-design Chevy with a fairly high-tech interior. And the way the hybrid side works is different. Your first 40 miles on a full charge are 100% electric. If you regularly commute 20 miles to work or don't drive more than 40 miles a day, then plug it in when you get home, it won't use a drop of gas. A full charge takes as little as three hours. Once you pass that initial 40 miles, the in-line 4-cylinder engine uses gasoline or E85 fuel to go up to an additional 300 miles before needing fuel. It's a mid-size, 4-person car and will set you back around $34,000 after a $7500 federal tax credit. Ammenities included are 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, heated mirrors, keyless ignition, telescoping/tilt steering wheel, bluetooth, OnStar, navigation system with traffic and voice controls, a 6-speaker Bose stereo with CD/DVD player, iPod/USB and 30GB of built-in digital music storage. It's no rocket, at a zero-to-sixty time of just over 8 seconds, but it's a quiet ride with the all-electric motor when you first start off. Trunk space is limited by batteries and relatively low trunk line. That same trunk line offers a nice big rear window for easy viewing in the rear view mirror. The pillars all around are small and offer great visibility. Four doors make it not only easy for passengers to get in and out, but also makes the front doors shorter to make entry and exit easy in parking lots and garages. The safety features of the 2011 Chevrolet Volt include stability controls, antilock brakes, front and side airbags, front knee airbags, and full-length side-curtain airbags.
