Once in awhile we come across gadgets that make our jaws drop in an unexpected and dramatic fashion. Such was the case when we heard about a new floating chair that was developed by researchers at Japan’s Kobe Gakuin University.
Created specifically for senior who need help getting around their respective homes, the chair shoots jets of air out of an opening (like an arcade air hockey table) in order to gravitate a few inches off the ground. The futuristic seat rotates smoothly with sharp turns, making it a more desirable mode of transportation than a wheelchair. For now, the seat only moves horizontally, not vertically, so you don’t have to worry about hitting your precious head on the ceiling.
This chair of tomorrow can float holding up to 330 pounds of weight. From what we could tell, with a soft cushiony back rest and a foot holder, the chair seems pretty comfortable. Supposedly though, the chair doesn’t function properly on carpets.
If you think this ultramodern gem is just a figment of our imagination, then we suggest you take a look at the video:
Now isn’t that impressive! No word when the levitating chair will be available to the public for purchase, but we will surely keep you informed.
