Canon's Powershot SX230 HS offers 12 megapixel resolution with excellent low-light performance and a long zoom range (14x) that goes from 28mm (equivalent) wide to almost 400mm. It is good for shooting sports in both video and photo, with a high burst rate for sequences. Indoors it performs very well without the not-so-great built-in flash. If you shoot kids or parties a lot, this is a big help. Optical image stabilization keeps your shots steady. There is built-in GPS that you can turn on and it will record your latitude and longitude as well as altitude. Perfect for travel and remembering exactly where a photo was taken. Getting to that setting in the menu can take a few minutes. The menus are good, and fortunately there are dials and buttons on the back that make it so you can change many settings without even going into the menus. The top dial allows you to pick the mode, including Smart Auto that sets everything for you and manual that lets you pick everything, and settings in between. There are settings for Smart Shutter to automatically shoot when a smile is detected or when someone enters the frame. A dedicated movie recording button lets you shoot 1080p HD movies with the press of one button. You do have to have nimble enough fingers for the small buttons. The buttons are clearly marked. The 3-inch LCD takes up most of the back of the camera, and is crisp, clean, and easy to see.
  • Canon's HS SYSTEM with a 12.1 MP CMOS and DIGIC 4 Image Processor improves shooting in low-light situations without the need for a flash
  • Full 1080p HD Video for exceptional quality with stereo sound, plus a dedicated movie button for easy access.
  • Remember where you were and when your pictures were taken with a GPS tracker that records your location, and a logger
  • Powerful 14x Optical Zoom with Optical Image Stabilizer and a 28mm Wide-Angle lens.
  • Lowers noise levels at higher ISO settings.
  • Smart AUTO (32 scenes); Movie Digest Mode; Toy Camera Effect; Monochrome; Face Detection; Red-eye Correction
  • USB 2.0 Hi-Speed; HDMI; SD card slot (card not included)
