It's good to see Nikon finally in the compact mirrorless camera market. And with the V1, they're in with an incredible camera. It has an electronic viewfinder that has 1,440,000 pixels and a very high resolution LCD screen (921k pixels). Putting your eye up to the viewfinder turns off the LCD, and it turns back on when you move away from the viewfinder. Very easy. They've promised very easy to use menus, as well. The processor is lightning quick, shooting 10 frames per second in automatic and a whopping 60 frames per second in manual! It also shoots HD video, frame rates from 30-1200 frames per second. Yes, twelve HUNDRED. If you like slow motion, this is the way to get it. So far, only a couple of Nikkor lenses have been announced for this new system. The kit lens is a 10-30mm, there's also a 10mm prime lens that is REALLY compact, and a longer 30-110mm lens is available as well. It uses Nikon's legendary VR II image stabilization and a silent stepping motor (STM) for silent focus even when shooting video. There is an attachable flash for the new Nikon 1 system that is powered from the camera. Built-in GPS can geotag your images with lattitude, longitude and altitude information. The V1 isn't cheap, at $899, but it offers a LOT of great features. There's also a less expensive version, the J1, which we'll talk about soon.
  • A revolutionary new imaging system from Nikon, harmoniuously designed from the ground up
