A new survey courtesy of the BCS (British Computer Society) - the Charted Institute for IT finds that technology is linked with feelings of happiness and well-being. More specifically, the survey, which was taken among 35,000 participants worldwide from both sexes, found that access to communication devices was the most valued. Contrary to popular belief, a love for technology does not necessarily disappear with old age. Paul Flatters of the Trajectory Partnership, an organization that conducted research on behalf of the BCS, concluded that "whether young or old, we're all social beings, we all have a need for the things IT access facilitates." This doesn't necessarily mean that seniors across the world are embracing technology at higher rates than their younger counterparts; the rates are about the same. While there seems to be a perception in the popular media that technology actually has a negative impact on well being and happiness, the truth is that social media and communication devices enable us to broaden our social encounters. Happiness is not simply about having more material wealth but more so about what these gadgets can do for us. Technology linked to happiness, study claims - (BBC News)
