The original incarnation of the Nike + App was a pretty darn neat idea: you could track your distance and speed during a run by placing a sensor in a Nike shoe and sync the device up with your iPhone or newer iPod models. An updated version has made a few crucial adjustments -- you no longer need the sensor or the shoe to use the app. Appropriately renamed Nike + GPS, the app now uses GPS functionality to track how far you run. Thus, the app is even now applicable for senior's who don't or can't buy Nike shoes and might use customized orthopedic athletic shoes instead. Additionally, we heard many complaints regarding the sensor -- it didn't work properly or it was too confusing to sync with the iPhone itself. Consider those worries a thing of the past. The app also includes a 'Challenge Me' feature that will push you to run between 3.5 and 5 miles. Getting this push from the app is wonderfully useful for seniors who needs that need that extra cardiovascular inspiration. The app costs $1.99 to download from the iTunes store; a really great price for an aging runner that wants a more efficient way to check and record his/her performance. Nike + GPS - (iTunes)
