Japan Creates Sensor-Based Wristband to Monitor Seniors

Japan has been working hard to create devices that can care for adults as they age. This is because the country is expected to experience a boom in seniors over the coming years. So it’s no surprise that a Japanese telecommunications company has created a monitoring system that uses Wii-like motion sensor technology that’s built into a band resembling a wristwatch. These bands are also equipped with cameras, microphones and accelerometers, which track the wearer’s speed and motions to determine what type of activity they’re engaging in. This data can be sent wirelessly to subscribers, such as caretakers and physicians, or stored on a memory card. The device is still in the early stages of development, but so far the reviews have been positive.
