Visual acuity, a fancy way to say clarity of vision, depends upon the sharpness of the retinal focus and the brain’s ability to interpret images. You can test visual acuity by identifying black symbols on a white background, as the size and shapes of the symbols vary. Comparing your vision to what is considered “normal,” visual acuity tests are the most common and reliable way to measure visual ability.
