Aside from the bed comforter, hotel remotes have to be one of the grossest items we come into contact with during our nights away from home. We shutter at the very thought. Luckily, a company called LodgeNet Interactive Corporation, which provides on-demand and other TV services for hotels, has created a mobile app that can turn your smartphone into your hotel remote. The app can be downloaded prior to check-in, at check-in or even in the hotel room by scanning a QR code. The company notes you still have to use the communal remote to turn the TV on, but after that you can switch to your mobile phone. We suppose you could avoid the remote altogether by turning the TV on manually, but that’s probably not much more sanitary. The app is currently available for iPhone and Android.
