Study: One-third of Smartphone Owners Use Apps Before They’re Out of Bed

by: Nellie Day
According to an Ericsson survey, nearly one-third of smartphone owners have engaged a non-voice application on their smartphones before they’re even out of bed. We can’t sound too shocked by that number — we do it, too. Apparently a whopping 35 percent of us Android and iPhone users reach for our smartphones before we reach for just about anything else in the morning. The most popular non-voice apps were the social networking apps. Unsurprisingly, Facebook was listed as the most popular app people turned to in the morning. “Our research found apps are appealing to people at an emotional level,” Ericsson’s statement said. “Consumers become attached to a certain set of apps that makes them feel more in control of their lives, and turns everyday chores into positive experiences. Apps even give consumers a new sense of freedom; if a new situation arises, there’s probably an app out there that could help them.”
