A new study by the Pew Internet and American Life Project shows that texting is no longer just an activity for teenagers. In fact, adults are embracing texting in record numbers.
The study came across some fascinating statistics: a higher percentage of adults text than teenagers. In other words, on average, there are more adult texters than teen texters. Wow.
Additionally, the average adult texter receives 10 message per day. In terms of writing messages, 50% of adults send 1-10 texts a day; 25% send off between 11 and 50 texts a day, and 10% send between 50 and 200 messages on a daily basis. While it might seem surprising, adults having become integrated into the texting community.
The study didn't break down adults by age, so we don't know what percentage of texting adults actually happen to be seniors. Though, we think it is safe to assume that the increase in texting popularity among adults has something to do with the fact that it is becoming increasing simple to text.
This is clearly key for seniors who can now text with ease. Less of us are using confusing, disorienting T-9 interface and more of us are embracing smartphones with full blown keyboards. As long as smartphones become easier and easier to use, we should only expect the number of texting seniors to increase.
