Video: The History of Video Games (and Their Sound Effects)
Whether you’re a hardcore gamer or not, chances are you’ve played a round or two of some video game over the past 30 years. Maybe you played Pac-Man on an Atari. Or Tetris on a Nintendo. Or maybe you stay fit now thanks to the Xbox Kinect. Whatever your poison, there’s no debating that video games have enjoyed a long, storied history. Part of that history includes the unique, synthetic sounds that signified a jump, hit, death and a million other actions. Some of these sounds were so iconic and so embedded in our brains that they actually hold more vivid memories than any of the games' visuals. If you’d like to relive some of those glory days, Michael Winslow — aka Larvelle Jones from Police Academy — takes you through a brief, but entertaining retrospective on video games. Enjoy!
