The Real Winner of the 2010 Super Bowl: Sketchers’ Shape-Ups

by Max Baumgarten on February 8, 2010 · 0 comments

Yesterday’s game once again proved that Super Bowl Sunday is more than just a football match between the NFL’s best but it’s also an advertising spectacle. With a 30 second spot costing about three million dollars, major companies use the opportunity to display their finest products and favorite ads. The usual cast of characters (Budweiser, Snickers, Doritos) made their annual appearance, but from our point of view, the Shape-Ups Sketchers ad was the real stand out of the bunch.

We approve. Shape -Ups is a revolutionary shoe: supposedly, the shoe’s design (a U-shaped bottom) works to stimulate your muscles. Consequently, you are able to build lower body strength simply by walking. In terms of its elder friendly features, the Shape-Ups are quite impressive. The box toe area is very wide and comfortable, giving your toes room to breathe. The design helps to relieve knee and joint stress. The sole is slightly unstable, which is actually beneficial though because that set up helps to activate your core and balance muscles.

Now, we are not recommending this shoe to a senior with frail bones who is prone to falls but rather someone who currently lives an active lifestyle. Shape-Ups cost around $100.00; it may take awhile to get used to the shoe’s feel but it an investment that will likely pay off.
